I have been advocating NFTs for such a long time that I have reached the final frontier. Throughout my previous articles, I have spoken about the future of NFTs, discussed some super impressive projects, dug out hidden gems, and created user guides. In this 2 part article, we will discuss an NFT project which is cutting edge. It is the answer to the question of ‘What Next’ for NFTs.
While the fundamentals of NFTs remain strong, the NFT space is already in a bubble. The current hype of NFTs is based on few different NFT Types:
1. Gaming NFTs (eg. Enjin backed NFTs)
2. Digital Art
3. Airdrop Utilities (eg. NFT Boxes)
4. Historical significance (eg. Crypto Punks) etc
Still, a lot of NFTs are purchased which do not have any significant value. For example, An artwork is minted as a 1 piece NFT in Ethereum, what happens if the same is minted again with a different name, or in a different blockchain? There is no simple way of identifying this duplication. If there is a proper utility, then these copies will lose those utilities without the same contract, will the buyers know? The new frontier and way forward for NFTs are combined and integrated utilities which include effectively fusing the physical world with the digital world. Ether Cards brings in utilities which is not tried much before.
EtherCards
The EtherCards project is building a platform with a set of tools for artists and marketplaces to have different types of interactions (particularly monetize and gamify the art). The EtherCards are the one card to rule a few or all of such interactions. EtherCard owners will be empowered with traits, randomly chosen which will open up use cases for them. Let’s explore few such use cases:
Tickets
Create a ticketing system to sell your artwork: For example, instead of putting a fixed price for your artwork, you can further gamify the sale by asking customers to purchase tickets to participate in a lottery, a randomized lottery (using Chainlink VRF) will select a winner. The parameters of the ticket (number of tickets, price, reserve, etc) are all customizable. EtherCards will charge a setup fee of 0.1 ETH (currently).
Puzzles
An artist can engage fans by creating puzzles using his/ her own artworks. The platform is designed to create customizable puzzles with multiple design variations consisting of a set of simple rules.
Blind Bags
Users can sell Blind Bags using the EtherCards Platform. The platform is capable of automatically creating sealed packs of cards. The artists can define the possibility and probability of any cards appearing in the bags based on the card rarity. The cheaper bags might come with a reduced chance of containing rare cards.
Integrations
EtherCards plans to roll out its features with other platforms. It plans to integrate with NFT marketplaces like Rarible, OpenSea, Nifty, etc.
Along with the above features EtherCards plans to bring in lots of other new features in the coming days.
Types of Cards
EtherCards acts as unique digital art as well as holds real utility and value. There will be only 10,000 cards in the initial release. Some of the traits of these cards will never be released again. The early presale cards will receive a special Phoenix trait which will also never be released again. The shorter serial numbers have better features. The shorter the serial number on your EtherCard, the better features you will enjoy.
The types of cards include:
• Founder Cards
• OG Cards
• Alpha Cards
• Common cards
All these cards will have unique traits which will not be found in future releases.
In the next part of this 2 part series, we will talk about the card types in detail and also understand the various traits and the power they bring in. We will also discuss a little bit about the upcoming public sale and how you can get these cards.
